Mission

Why Little Engineers exists

GIS education in Africa is still out of reach for most people who need it. The tools exist, the problems exist, but the accessible on-ramp does not. Little Engineers is building that on-ramp.

We believe geospatial technology should be a public good โ€” not something you need an expensive university, a Western institution, or a corporate tool suite to access. Every resource we build is free, open source, and designed for the African context.

The UAV sales arm exists to sustainably fund the mission โ€” keeping the community free while bringing drone technology to photographers, farmers, surveyors, and hobbyists at prices that make sense for Ghana.

"Making geospatial technology a public good โ€” built by practitioners, for people."

Open Source Community

GIS knowledge as a public good

The community arm of Little Engineers is non-profit and open source. Every learning path, tutorial, and tool we build is freely available โ€” no paywalls, no gatekeeping.

We are building something that does not quite exist yet in Africa: a practitioner-led GIS community where experienced professionals contribute back, and beginners have a clear, supported path into geospatial careers.

๐Ÿ“š
Beginner Learning Paths
Free, structured GIS learning from zero to your first real project โ€” with Africa-specific examples and datasets.
๐Ÿค
Mentorship
Direct access to working geographers, GIS analysts, and researchers who volunteer their expertise.
๐Ÿ› ๏ธ
Open Source Tools & Templates
Reusable GIS workflows, project templates, and code โ€” all on GitHub, all free.
๐ŸŒ
Africa-Rooted, Globally Open
Built for and by Africans โ€” but open to anyone in the world who wants to learn or contribute.

Want to Contribute?

If you are a GIS professional, researcher, or practitioner who wants to give back โ€” Little Engineers is being built for and with people like you.

We are looking for contributors who can offer tutorials, mentorship sessions, open datasets, code, or simply their knowledge shared with beginners who need it.

Rachel is a Geographer and Cloud Developer who founded Little Engineers to make geospatial technology accessible to everyone โ€” not just those with access to expensive tools or institutions. She brings together geography, cloud infrastructure, and UAV systems to solve real problems in Ghana and beyond.

With a B.A. in Geography & Resource Development and Political Science from the University of Ghana, training in AWS Cloud Engineering from Azubi Africa, and hands-on experience as a Cloud Developer and GIS Analyst, she built Little Engineers from the ground up โ€” starting with a vision and a clear gap to fill.
